Is she wrong? Is she within her right? What would you do as a parent?
The internet is buzzing like wild fire over a picture of a 2nd grade teacher in Atlanta, Ga. Her name is “unknown” but that has not stopped her from creating controversy in her pretty pink dress. The pink cape sleeve body con dress is apart of the Nikki Minaj Collection exclusively at K-Mart. However, one would never have imagined a K-Mart dress causing such a firestorm controversy. I truly believe the teacher was completely unintentional when she chose to wear that dress. Furthermore, the dress is extremely cute and it’s affordable so why not wear it. Technically, all of her major body parts are covered. She just happens to be very voluptuous. Honestly, because of the shape of the her body , she will be subjected to criticism regardless of what she wears. This woman has a “body type” that society fetishizes. Our misogynistic society deems woman like this as sexual objects and overlooks the fact that they are people first.
As shown above, the same teacher is pictured in a variety of outfits. Regardless of what she wears, her shape is very distinguished. “Ms. 2nd Grade” will always received awkward stares and uncomfortable looks from people because our society normalizes the fetish of voluptuous women. Case and Point, if we stop objectifying full figured woman, the internet would not “break” over a hardworking teacher who is just trying to make it in America.
As a parent, I would not be concerned if she was my daughter’s teacher. I am too very voluptuous and I can relate to her dilemma. We are not here to make people uncomfortable but we can not continue to be ostracized by society. We have lives to live too.
